How does baby yoga support your babies development.
I know I’m a yoga teacher, but I just absolutely love baby yoga!
Baby yoga leads perfectly on from baby massage. Our ‘Baby Discovery’ stage 2 class incorporates baby yoga movements which support your babies development. Baby yoga ensures that your baby receives physical activity to support their developing bodies & eagerness to discover the world around them.
Babies are naturally great at yoga as their bodies are so flexible. No, we don’t get babies doing downward dogs. Instead we use stretches in a baby yoga class help to develop gross & fine motor skills which strengthen & build core strength. These movements also allow baby to develop their proprioceptive system (this means balance & coordination!).
Attending a baby yoga class also helps to support your babies vestibular system through the movements of swings, dips & lifts. The vestibular system is located in the inner ear and plays a vital role in ensuring the entire nervous system functions effectively. Through these baby yoga movements baby begin to understand how to control their bodies in space against gravity (clever right?!).
By using baby yoga we can also encourage baby to work on engaging both side of their brain. We support brain organisation by using baby yoga to cross the mid-line (bilateral coordination) which in turn can be hugely beneficial to baby reaching developmental milestones.
In turn, baby yoga isn’t just a great opportunity to bond with your baby but also hugely beneficial in supporting many areas of their development. If you are a sucker for baby looking super cute, then with this class you get the added bonus of dressing baby up each week and documenting their cute adventures whilst learning tons!
